Book Blogger Hop: June 22-28

This weeks question:

Do you immediately write a review upon finishing a book or do you wait and write multiple reviews at once?

I have a process I go through after each book I finish. First, immediately after (or within 24 hours of) finishing the novel, a write a short version of my review for Goodreads. This is usually my first thoughts and concerns I had as well as my initial reactions to the story. Then I put the book into a pile of ‘completed reading,’ and let it sit for about a week or so. This gives me time to really think on the positive and negative aspects of the plots, characters, style, and how to address them in my post. Finally, using my Goodreads thoughts as guidelines, I focus on a little more detail of each subject (without giving away spoilers, if possible) on my blog review. Typically with this process and at the rate I read, I try for at least one review week. But if I begin to fall behind in reviews, I up it to two or three for a while, at least until the ‘completed reading’ pile is manageable again.

I know it’s slow, but it’s my thinking process and analysis method. At least it not like ancient Egyptian mummification, which took 40 to 70 days to wrap up. LOL.

  1. I like that you have a process and that you stick with it. (I have a process but I don’t always do it). I have been better lately of at least putting a few thoughts on goodreads that I can refer back to when writing my review if needed.

    When I used to do book reviews I actually wrote my review as I went along with the book. I remember seeing someone that wrote the pros and cons of what they liked in the book, so I started doing that myself. By the time I actually finished the book I already had most of my review finished and could move on.

  3. That’s a great strategy! It sounds like a lot of work, but being so organized can help simplify things a lot. Sometimes I just give up on reviewing a book I’ve read because I can’t get my thoughts together about what I want to say. Maybe it would help to have a system!
