How to Date an Alien Review
Author: Magan Vernon
High school senior Alex Bianchi’s estranged father gets her an internship at Circe Operations Center to pad her college applications. But Circe isn’t your typical military base. It’s an alien-run operation center and not all of the aliens are friendly, especially the one that tries to kill Alex on her first day. When Ace, a dark-eyed Caltian, enters and saves the day, she can’t help but be drawn to him. Can these star-crossed lovers survive when they’re on the brink of intergalactic war?
My Rating of this Book – 4 out of 5 Stars
How to Date an Alien is a romance that is out of this world. Actually, the story setting is pretty Earth bound, but the plot is intriguing. The book focuses mostly on a forbidden romance. However, what kept me locked in to the pages were its entertaining details of the settings and events, the dark twists of nightmares, and the adventure in which Alex and Ace find themselves.
The characters are what really make this story, though. Alex is a great lead character. And I really love watching her grow from someone who doesn’t have much self-esteem to someone willing to take on the world and perhaps the galaxy for the one she loves. And though Ace is not someone I could really crush on myself, I really did enjoy him as Alex’s love interest. Yes, he has his annoyances, but who doesn’t in real life. But, out of all the characters, I have to admit Jen, Alex’s best friend through all this, is my favorite character. She is the one character I can really relate to, the person who is always there for their friend no matter what.
Overall, a really good book and I recommend reading it this holiday season by a warm fire and with a cup of cocoa.
